Russell Westbrook is having one of the best stretches of his career. In the month of February he’s averaging 31.6 points, 8 rebounds, and 9.1 assists. Westbrook also won the NBA All-Star Game’s MVP award. Many have started to wonder if Westbrook has finally stepped out of the shadows of Kevin Durant and become the best player on the Thunder. While Westbrook is hot right now Durant is still the head honcho in O-K-C.
Both players are volume shooters but Durant is much more effective than Westbrook. Since 2012 Durant’s effective field goal percentage is 56% while Westbrook’s is 47%. Speaking in terms of wins and losses since 2012 when Durant shoots the ball more than 20 times the Thunder win 72% of their games. When Westbrook shoots that many times they Thunder only win 60% of the time.
Durant has also had more high impact games and less low impact games. Since 2012 not including any games in which Durant got injured KD has had a game score over 30, 17% of the time. Since 2012 not including games in which Westbrook was injured Russell had a game score over 30, 6% of the time. Durant has only had a GmSc less than 10, 3 % of the time while Westbrook has been under 10, 13% of the time.
