The Toronto Blue Jays made a blockbuster trade acquiring star pitcher David Price for a series of prospects. In return for Price, the Detroit Tigers received left handed pitchers Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd, and Jairo Labourt.
Price is 7-0, with a 3.86 era lifetime at the Rodgers Centre in Toronto.
With the trades for SS Troy Tulowitzki and now Price, it’s evident the Blue Jays are going it for all this year. While its admirable to see a franchise who hasn’t been to the playoffs since 1993, swing for the fences, it’s also important to remember how much stability within an organization can dictate the moves a team makes.
With Paul Beeston in his final year as president, and GM Alex Anthropoulos under evaluation, you have to wonder if they make these same trades if they had a greater sense of job security.
Did they give up too much for a player who may only be around for a few months? When is the last time a blockbuster trade propelled a team to a World Series title that year?
